February 2021

A new year and new beginnings for our country. With a refreshing change of leadership in the White House and the U.S. Congress, we are on a path of healing from the intense and intersectional political, economic, and social, and environmental challenges that peaked over the past year. We are hopeful that 2021 will bring the initiatives needed to restore integrity, decency, and scientifically sound decision making that increases resilience, sustainability, and equity.

Closely related, we are also celebrating new beginnings here at Upwelling Consulting. President Biden selected the new political team at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and we were delighted to watch Letise sworn in on Inauguration Day as the NOAA Senior Advisor. We know she will do amazing things for the ocean, the climate, and American communities in her new role. She brings the strategic mindset to bridge the gap between science and policy to create tangible change. Due to her new role, Letise has recused herself from ongoing and pending Upwelling Consulting work. Sarah also received good news: recognized as one of the next generation’s rising stars in environmental law and policy, she was selected as an Environmental Law Institute (ELI) Emerging Leader, and will take part in professional development through ELI in the coming year.
